There is a saying that when God closes one door, He opens another. And in our case, He opened a door less than a month after our beloved Bailey died. (See his Memorial Tribute below). On April 28th, 2008 a friend called to see if we wanted a newborn bull calf whose mom had died. We brought him home - and a new venture began. He was healthy, sensible and calm in nature, and has bonded well with us. The new baby put a grin back on Jim's face, and gave us a wonderful means to move forward.

Bailey Has Moved On To Greener Pastures In Heaven
April 4, 2008.

From Jim and Linda Sautner - It is with deep sadness that we advise our beloved Bailey the Buffalo has died.

In a tragic incident, Bailey's back leg became trapped in the metal bars of a feeder in his corral area right behind our house. His leg was freed as quickly as possible and was not broken - but a more serious problem was quickly apparent when Bailey's efforts to get up were unsuccessful. As as result of laying on his side for some time under duress, he succumbed to the pressure this created on his heart and lungs and died soon after with his head on my lap and my arms hugging desperately.

It is still so hard to believe that such a freak occurrance could end our eight years with our wonderful pet buffalo. We have a great deal to celebrate in the incredible life of Bailey, and we know we were so blessed to be a part of that life. Bailey was a completely unique animal with a unique relationship to people (especially Jim) that far surpassed what we ever thought could happen. As long as Jim was beside him, Bailey would go anywhere and do just about anything. He loved being around people, loved the attention they gave him, loved to be brushed, loved his trailer rides, loved to "dance" with Jim. He touched the hearts of many people around the world, and will not be easily forgotten.

Farewell Good Friend.

"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."
Psalm 46.

God doesn't take us out of our sorrow, he takes us through it to teach us trust and faith in him.
